Raleigh Jaycees Announce
the Brookhill Steeplechase will not be Held in 2007

Raleigh, N.C.—The Raleigh Jaycees regret to announce the fifteenth running of the Brookhill Steeplechase will not be held in 2007. After careful consideration, the uncertainty of the future of the land has prompted this decision. For nearly fifteen years patrons from across the state have come to welcome spring with the running of the horses in Clayton, N.C. at Brookhill Farms, owned by Ray Earp and Mary Elizabeth Worley.

2006 marked the fourteenth year that the Raleigh Jaycees have hosted the Triangle’s premier sporting and entertainment event. The Brookhill Steeplechase, sanctioned by the National Steeplechase Association (NSA), has uniquely distinguished itself as a completely volunteer run event. Last year’s race boasted the largest crowd to date and its most successful year. “I have learned from this organization how to run a world-class event and am proud to be associated with the Raleigh Jaycees and the Brookhill Steeplechase,” said Jennifer Trivette, 2006 race director.

It was the vision of the Raleigh Jaycees and the Earp family that enabled this volunteer organization to transform a Clayton area farm into a premier steeplechase venue and provide the Triangle with the only sporting event of this caliber. The generosity of the sponsors, the loyal patrons and countless volunteers over the past 14 years helped make this vision a reality. The continued support of the Clayton and Johnston County communities has also been paramount to providing so many years of outstanding events.

“The Raleigh Jaycees are thankful for the continued support from the NSA and the trainers, riders and owners that have been so loyal to the Brookhill Steeplechase. We’ve enjoyed the past success of the race and will be evaluating our options for the future,” said Raleigh Jaycee president, Ed Blackman.

Celebrating its 75th year as part of the Raleigh community, the Raleigh Jaycees is an organization dedicated to leadership development through community service. This 200+ member all-volunteer civic organization runs more than 100 community service and leadership development projects each year. The Raleigh Jaycees is an affiliate organization of the N.C. Junior Chamber of Commerce, the U.S. Junior Chamber of Commerce and Junior Chamber International. Membership is open to anyone between 21 and 40 years of age. The Raleigh Jaycees meet at 7:00 pm on the first and third Tuesday of each month at the McKimmon Center on the North Carolina State University campus.
